So easy and fun to make. Bread looked and tasted amazing! I’m usually pretty bad at baking, so I’m really impressed with the result.

This sourdough kit was a fantastic gift! My friend used it to bake an adorable bunny shaped loaf for Easter. We enjoyed it for brunch. She mentioned it was significantly easier than making sourdough from scratch.

It was fun to prepare the loaf by hand, and it came out with a great sourdough flavor! I brought the finished product over to my neighbor's house to share, and they agreed the flavor was really authentic and rich. It comes with enough supplies to make four loaves, so I'll see how much my technique improves for the next three loaves.

I really liked the easy to follow, step-by-step instructions. I have my sourdough starter way in the back of my fridge being neglected, so this was a nice change of pace from having to feed it over a couple days to wake it up.

I bought this sourdough bread kit to try making homemade bread for me and my family. It was my first time making the bread and it was a fun step-by-step baking activity to do with my kids. I really appreciate the detailed instructions that came with this kit. It was easy to follow and I chose to do the loaf pan bake, which turned out great.

I was always intimidated by baking, but this kit changed everything! I'd never baked before, and everyone told me that making sourdough bread is harder than most other breads. So, I was amazed when I successfully baked a fantastic loaf on my first try!

This starter kit was great, even for someone who has never attempted to make sourdough before! The coolest thing about the instructions is that you get to choose your own adventure when it comes to timing, cooking materials, ingredients, etc., so the instructions are tailored to you! It also tasted delicious! My 3-year-old devoured two slices in less than five minutes as soon as it had cooled enough to eat.

What's in the Kit

The kit includes our fast-activating starter culture, an artisan flour blend, and access to our digital companion guide with detailed step-by-step instructions. The instructions can be customized to fit your schedule and include options for different types of bread. Each step is supported with high-quality images and videos, so you always know exactly what to do.

The Classic French blend is made with 100% organic bread flour. It bakes into a clean, malty, yet tangy flavor that pairs with anything. It is the most versatile choice.

The Whole Wheat Blend combines bread flour with whole wheat and rye (all organic flours). It gives you a more rustic loaf with a deeper, nuttier flavor.

You choose when you order. The 2-loaf kit is faster, while the 4-loaf kit takes a little longer (about 30 to 36 hours) but gives you more bread and practice. Either way, each loaf is about 2 pounds - big enough to feed a family for a week, or a group at a dinner or party.

Our recipes are written to make and bake one loaf at a time. But, if desired, preparing multiple loaves on the same day is totally doable too.

It depends on the kit you choose and the temperature of your kitchen. The 2-loaf kit is faster at 18 to 24 hours, while the 4-loaf kit takes 30 to 36 hours. Most of that time is hands-off fermentation, which is what develops the rich sourdough flavor you cannot get by rushing. Actual hands-on work is only about an hour total.

Those “quick” kits are not real sourdough. They use additives or shortcuts to mimic sourdough flavor, but they do not contain live cultures and they do not ferment the dough. Our culture jump-starts the process, but flavor and texture only come from slow, natural fermentation. Just like you cannot rush a garden to grow, you cannot shortcut sourdough without losing what makes it special.

Unlike the yeast you can find at the supermarket, the secret ingredient that makes sourdough special is lactic acid bacteria. It’s what gives sourdough its distinctive flavor and health benefits. Our culture contains yeast and bacteria and is freeze-dried for consistency and reliability. The result is a starter that activates quickly and performs the same way every time.

We use simple ingredients and don’t include any preservatives, flavorings, or dough conditioners, so you can feel good about every slice you serve. It’s just the freeze dried microbes, organic flour, salt, malted barley flour (commonly used in bakeries to boost fermentation and color), and a tiny amount of sugar (less than half a teaspoon per kit) used to stabilize the freeze dried sourdough culture.

The Science

Yes. Our culture contains the same yeast and lactic acid bacteria found in traditional starters. Once activated, your dough ferments naturally, exactly like any sourdough made at home. The only difference is that we make it convenient & predictable, so you get authentic sourdough flavor without the hassle of maintaining a starter.

Yes. The culture ferments the dough naturally, producing the same tangy flavor and chewy texture you expect from sourdough. In blind taste tests people cannot tell the difference from bread made with a traditional starter, but they notice how much easier the process is.

Most “dehydrated” starters sold online are heat-dried. Microbes can die during drying and when you try to re-activate the starter, it drifts. This means flavor and timing is inconsistent, and there’s a 4-5 day activation time - not much different from starting from scratch!

Our culture is freeze-dried and tested for a consistent cell count. That’s why it activates overnight and delivers the same flavor and timing every time.

A live starter needs regular feedings just to stay alive. And even then, you have to catch it at its peak before baking. Miss the window and your bread won’t rise the way it should. It’s a constant hassle.

Our culture is freeze-dried and shelf-stable. You just activate when you’re ready, and it’s always at the right stage to bake. You’re baking bread, not babysitting jars.

Yes, you could. But here is what most companies selling starters will not tell you: any starter that you buy online or even get from a friend will drift as you feed it, so the flavor and timing may not stay the same.

Rather than pretending we have a shortcut to making your own starter, we lean into the benefits of freeze drying: reliable results right away.

Your Baking Journey

No. The kit is designed to give beginners a fast, reliable first bake, but it is also great for experienced bakers who bake less often or have busy schedules. You don’t have to worry about a dead or weak starter being the thing that keeps you from making bread.

Everyone could use a helping hand in the kitchen, but tools are not what makes sourdough work. What matters most is nailing fermentation and experiencing the magic and confidence boost of pulling a beautiful, delicious loaf out of the oven, which is exactly what our kit is designed to help you do.

Most kitchens already have the basics you need to start making bread, and when you are ready to upgrade we share our favorite tools that make the process even easier.

Absolutely. Anything you can do with regular sourdough baking you can do with our method. That means mix-ins like nuts, herbs, olives, cheese, seeds, or scoring fun designs. We suggest baking one loaf with our base recipe first, then get creative. After your first bake you will also get a PDF with three tested mix-in variations to try.

Isn’t it time your kitchen smelled like fresh bread?
